Mathematics 22nd February

Good morning P3s!!

It's Monday 22nd February and time for some numberwork !

Boys and girls, today we want you to think back to before Christmas when we were dividing things and cutting  shapes into 2 pieces.

When something is cut or divided into 2 equal pieces or parts, what is each part called?

YES THAT'S RIGHT!! Each part is one half.

But remember P3s, for something to be cut or divided in half the 2 pieces must be equal in size!!

So, if you and a friend cut a cake or a pizza into 2 equal pieces to share, then each of you would have half of the cake.

What would happen if 4 of you wanted to share a cake? Yes, that's right, you'd have to divide it into 4 equal pieces! Now, I wonder how you could do that?

Well, if you cut each half in half, then there would be 4 equal pieces to share.

When something is cut or divided into 4 equal pieces, each piece is called one quarter.

This is much easier to show you while I am explaining it boys and girls.  So please watch the video below very carefully before you attempt today's task.

Good luck P3s.
