a or an?

Hi guys, it's Terrific Tuesday again and we are going to have some fun!

First thing I want you to do this morning is to draw around your hand. Yes you read correctly! Can you do that now?

Then when you have drawn around your hand I would like you to write the 5 vowels on each of your fingers and thumb! Now, who remembered the 5 vowels? If you have forgotten, let's take a look. The 5 vowels are;

a   e   i   o   u

In P3 we have a funny little rhyme that helps us remember the 5 vowels.

Orange

Underpants

Today boys and girls, we are going to be learning about a and an. More specifically, we are learning that we use the little word an before a word beginning with a vowel. For example;

an apple

an elephant

an instrument

an orange

an udder

We use a before any word beginning with a consonant. A consonant is any other letter that is not a vowel. Therefore, the consonants in the alphabet are; b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y, z.
