School Houses
Each pupil in our school belongs to a house. Our houses are named after local islands; namely Rathlin, Copeland and Devenish.
Having three houses in a school creates a vibrant sense of belonging, teamwork, and healthy competition among students. Our house system helps build strong communities by grouping learners across different year groups, encouraging leadership and collaboration. It promotes school spirit through inter‑house events such as sports, academics and cultural competitions, giving every student a chance to contribute and shine in their own way.
Each house is led by two house captains and two vice-captains. P7 pupils have the opportunity to set out why they should be chosen for these important roles at the beginning of the school year.
In 2025/26, our priorities are as follows:
- Our Houses will each choose a charity to support, with a event planned each year to fundraise, where pupils wear their house colours.
- Houses will also help to promote fundraising for in-school supports, resources and developments across the year too, with the winning house having input to how those funds would be best spent. (Options identified with pupils, based on whole school priorities)
- Our Houses will play inter-house team sports in football, netball, hockey and cross-country, and this will help promote uptake of these sports as after-school clubs and through the joining of external clubs such as local football clubs, or Civil Service.
- Our Houses will take part in academic challenges, such as Spelling Bee and Mental Maths Challenge over the year.
- Our Houses will take part in artistic challenges, such as to design a House shield, with the winning entries being used for future displays this year.
