SPSC FS Mrs Massey

Welcome to the Foundation Stage Social Communication Unit. We can be found enjoying ourselves, not only in Room 15, but all around the school.

Please look at our page to see what we have been learning. We have lots of fun while we learn and grow.

We have two amazing helpers in our class called Miss Blackwood and Miss Kirkwood.

Thank you,

Ruth Massey.

We have amazing fun each day in school. We play with amazing toys and games both inside and outside our classroom.

Mrs Massey tries her best to add lots of photographs to our page each week so that you and your family can be involved in our learning journey! Don't forget that there are more photos added to your Dojo accounts of all the fun!

Have a look at all our photographs and see how we are learning so much during our time in school.

Our first weeks back in school:

Using a darning needle and cord to sew around the outline of a school.

Ripping red tissue paper and sticking it on to an outline of an apple to make a rosy  apple, good enough to eat.

We have been developing our skills today by learning how to rip paper to create a masterpiece.  We are also learning how to use the glue correctly. This means that we are only using the amount we need, not turning it up so much that we use it all in one go!

The painting easel was out today, and we had great fun creating some new masterpieces. The future of art looks to be in safe hands with these guys!

Discovering what is in our Joy Bags today!

Every morning brings a little mystery to our classroom! 🎁 Our Joy Bags have become the highlight of arrival time, and each day Mrs Massey fills them with delightful surprises that spark curiosity and smiles. Today we discovered theatrical masks 🎭, rain sticks that create the most soothing sounds 🌧️, and adorable rubber ducks 🦆 — plus so much more! The excitement on our students' faces as they peek inside is absolutely priceless. These simple treasures remind us that joy doesn't need to be complicated; sometimes it just needs to be unexpected and shared together.

Painting with water? Has Mrs Massey gone crazy?

Today we discovered the magic of water painting on a wall, and what a delightful way to learn! 🎨 Watching the "paint" vanish as it dried was pure wonder, and here's the best part—this wasn't just fun, it was fantastic for growing stronger. Painting on a vertical surface works wonders for wrist extension, shoulder stability, and core strength, all while sharpening hand-eye coordination. Who knew that simple water and a wall could be such a powerful tool for development? 💪✨

Outdoor fun at the slide in the September sunshine.

Using a cotton bud to dot the outline of an apple with red paint.

Using a pin to make holes in a star. This activity develops our fine motor skills – a must for good pencil control and, eventually, good handwriting.

Activities to develop our fine motor skills – using a bingo dabber and a single hole punch.

Having fun in the September sunshine. Getting to know new friends and loving being back at school.
