Thursday 5th March
Today was World Book Day.
We celebrated by having a 'Big Brookies' Bedtime Read'.
We came in wearing either pyjamas or comfy clothes and we brought in our favourite bedtime book.
We also played a game called Who Did It? Where we had to follow the clues to work out which of the characters from famous children's stories had stolen the books.
It was THE GRUFFALO!
Good Luck Megan!
Tuesday 3rd March
Tonight our friend and one of our Brooklands Classroom Assistants, Megan Bell, is playing football for Northern Ireland.
We are so proud of her!
She is playing against Switzerland.
World Book Day is this Thursday 5th March!
This year Brooklands is focusing on the love of reading rather than dressing up.
We are having a 'Big Brookies Bedtime Read' instead!
Children can come into school wearing pyjamas, onesies or just comfy clothes and bring their favourite book.
Prize Winners!
These two talented artists are the class winners in the competition to design a new house shield.
Well done!
We have a very special member of our class – a model student – he comes in every day, is always enthusiastic, he works hard and is kind to everyone!
He has a wet nose and a waggy tail – can you guess who it is?!!
That's right – PEANUT!!
Mental Health Week Online Art Lesson February 2026
Today we took part in an online Art Lesson with Sinead from the Art and Design Factory. She told us all about the work of the artist Hundertwasser and showed us some of his famous paintings. Her lesson guided us through painting our own pictures in the same style he used. We followed her TEAMS lesson carefully! Have a look below at the beautiful pieces of work we produced.
'Loaf' Pottery Workshop January 2026
Today we had a workshop with the potters from Loaf Pottery in Belfast.
We learnt how to make tiles out of clay and we loved being creative.
Our topic is Seas and Oceans so we used our ideas for the design of our tiles.
Our tiles have gone away to be fired and we are excited to see what they look like when they are finished.

We have been doing lots of fun activities this week as part of Children's Mental Health Week and we thought you might like to see our works of art!

Friday 17th January
In our Literacy lessons we have moved on to a new genre of writing.
We are now looking at Instructions and how they look a bit different from other types of writing.
Before we write our own instructions we decided that we need to be able to follow them first!
We all love jelly, so we thought we would make some by following the instructions on the back of the packet.
It was fun and the best thing was that we got to eat it too!

Today we had a visit from the Royal Navy STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) team.
We joined our friends in the mainstream to see and experience using some of the technology that sailors and submariners use every day.
We also got to hear about life in a submarine!
It was a fantastic experience and has really inspired some members of our class to think about a STEM career in the future.

Wednesday 15th January 2025
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)
As part of our Topic on Animation we have been looking at how sometimes in movies what looks like magic is actually SCIENCE.
We have been exploring how things are done to make movies and animations look realistic.
As part of this we are investigating whether some of the technology from the movies would be possible in real life.
One device that is used in science fiction films and animations is called a Tractor Beam.
A Tractor Beam can attract one object to another from a distance.
You might have seen them used in Star Trek or Star Wars?
Today we explored how static electricity could be the science behind these beams.
Have a look at how we got on with our experiments using balloons, cans and tissue paper!

Thursday 21st November
We had some very special visitors today from
UTV who have come to film Peanut for another episode of the 'Dogs With Jobs'!
Peanut showed them just how much he helps us to settle in to school each day and how he likes to stay close by when we start our lessons.
Some members of our class also used the cameras to film as well.
This was great because we have been making our own stop motion films as part of our topic on Animation. ![]()

Wednesday 16th October
All our children had a chat about what our new topic should be.
We thought about the things that interest us and we came up with some ideas.
Then we had a class vote to choose the best idea and we chose ANIMATION!
We thought this would make a fantastic topic because it covers lots of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects as well as History and Art too.
Today we began to make our own animations using the new school iPads-using an app called iPad Stop Motion.
Have a look at how we got on and when we finish our animations we will put them up here for you to see! ![]()
