VE80 celebrated in style!

*Text written by Senior Management.*

"Stop worrying Mr Henry, people will come..."
Well, my goodness, those supportive words came true in spectacular style on Thursday evening when the school and community joined together in their hundreds to celebrate and commemorate the 80th anniversary of #veday - the end of the Second World War in Europe. ♥️🤍💙

People of all ages flocked to our 'Proms in the Playground' - supported by the Ballybeen Improvement Group, the Davaar Residents Initiative and Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council - hosted by Glen Pavis from Downtown Radio with a feast of outstanding entertainment from The Victory Rollers, Harmonic Sounds & piper Matthew Wilson.

We welcomed special guests from Towell House to their front row seats, Gavin Robinson MP read the nationwide VE Day Proclamation and Rev Richard McIlhatton reflected on the theme of sacrifice. We were so grateful to St John's Ambulance for attending too.

Thank you to all of the named or tagged people for their contribution - plus the amazing P7 pupils who set up, decorated, read aloud on stage and befriended senior citizens.

The vision behind the event belongs to Mr Henry - whose months of detailed preparation and tireless organisation paid off in truly magnificent style - the sun shone for him AND his mum turned up unannounced from Portadown! 😆 Thank you MH.

We'll not forget this event in a hurry - and similarly we reflect on the courage and duty of every man, woman and child who lived and served during a dark time in world history - VE Day was their freedom, and it remains ours today, thanks to them.
