An exciting new initiative called Forest School has begun at Brooklands this term! It is an educational approach involving the great outdoors where children (and adults!) learn through hands-on play based learning activities in nature. Pupils from Brooklands Nursery and some KS1 classes have been the first to use our own Forest School site at the side of the school building beside the P1 classooms.
Pam & Sarah from NI Forest School visited last week to lead Forest School sessions. Mrs McVeigh's Nursery children were making some hungry leaf caterpillars and building nests, whilst P3G was learning how to build dens and heard all about fire safety. They got the added bonus of toasting some marshmallows!
Three staff members are completing the NIFSA Level 3 in Forest School - Mrs Jackson & Miss Campbell (P3 classroom assistants) & Nursery teacher Mrs McVeigh. Good luck, ladies - and thanks for your hard work and enthusiasm in leading this fantastic new initiative!
