5th March 2025 - World Book Week
We have been enjoying World Book Week. We drew and decorated the front cover of our favourite book. Others designed a new front and back cover for their favourite book. Look at our amazing work!

Dear Parents,
Our SEN Specialist Support Team (SSST) has invited all our current parents of children in SCU 1 to attend a bespoke Parent Information Programme entitled: ‘Let’s Talk About’. This programme offers a fantastic opportunity to connect with others, while exploring ideas and strategies to support your child’s learning at home.
This programme been designed specifically for parents of children aged 3-8, attending a Specialist Provision in a Mainstream School, and will be delivered in a variety of locations (outlined in the attached flyer).
The ‘Let’s Talk About’ programme is delivered in three practical and interactive sessions:
“Let’s Talk About- Supporting learning at Home”
“Let’s Talk About- Managing Big Feelings”
“Let’s Talk About- Promoting Independence”

Thursday 7th November 2024
Over the past few weeks, we have been listening carefully to stories about the Pigeon. We enjoyed listening to, 'Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!'. We talked about how the Pigeon may be feeling at different parts of the story.
Week commencing 21st October - Outdoor Learning
We have been learning more about autumn. We explored the school grounds to search for leaves and other natural resources for our sensory tray. We used magnifying glasses to have a closer look at our observations. We recorded our observations through use of a checklist and drawings. 🍂

We enjoyed spending time in the den today and made it our own by bringing teddies, blankets and cushions. 🏕️

The focus will be on Toileting, Dressing, Eating and Sleep.

Thursday 7th March 2024 - World Book Day
Tuesday 5th March – Mars Day
We had a brilliant day learning more about the planet Mars. We spent time looking at books and discovering new facts. We also created amazing pictures of Mars and through this we experimented with a variety of art materials. Peanut also celebrated Mars Day and one very generous child allowed Peanut to borrow his cape! 🐶
Tuesday 5th March 2024 - Today we brought our favourite books to the assembly hall. We looked through these and read together with a P3 and P6 class. 📚
Monday 4th March 2024 – World Book Week
Today we began our Book Week celebrations. A pupil in Mrs Gordon’s class read a story to us. The children enjoyed having an older child read to them.

We had a brilliant day. We went on the bouncy castles and had ice-cream.
Term 1 - Autumn
Thursday 26th October - Our ‘Autumnal Sponsored Walk n’ Roll Event’.
We enjoyed our walk around the school grounds and looked for the signs of Autumn. Afterwards, we went to the disco!
Thursday 12th October - Mellow Yellow Day
We had a relaxing day – we completed Art activities, took part in Play Based Learning and listened to music.
Coronation Week
This week we have been finding out about King Charles lll and the Coronation. We have taken part in many activities, including designing an invitation for the King’s Coronation and entering an Art and Literacy competition. We drew a picture representing ‘The Monarchy’ and wrote a report about King Charles lll. We also designed our own crowns to wear during Brooklands ‘Coronation Celebration’ day. We had so much fun at the picnic and outdoor disco!
Monday 27th February - Friday 3rd March - World Book Week
We have had a fun-filled week to celebrate the world of books, stories and reading. As well as listening to stories and reading books, we watched a virtual event featuring author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler. This was all about Fairy Tales. We used our imaginative skills to design new book covers for our favourite books and dressed up for World Book Day. Look at our wonderful costumes! ⭐️ 📚
Monday 6th February – Children’s Mental Health Week
Our theme for this week is ‘Let’s Connect’. We have taken part in a range of activities including, singing, dancing, art and learning through stories.
Look at our Christmas cards! We painted our cards in different ways, including sponge painting and finger painting - it was our own design. We then decorated it using sequins and glitter flakes. We wrote to our families on the back of the card. Happy Christmas!
Friday 2nd December - Christmas Jumper Day and a festive walk
Wednesday 26th October - Walk and Roll
We went for a lovely walk around the school grounds today, then back to the playground for an outdoor disco! We had great fun dancing.
Thursday 6th October - Mellow Yellow Day
We had a relaxing, enjoyable day. We took part in activities, including practising breathing exercises and completing art activities. We created shape pictures and experimented with watercolour painting. Please have a look at some of our amazing work

Today we had a special celebration for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. It was so exciting to have our photographs taken with the Queen!
Tuesday 3rd May - A visit from Henry Wee Wheels
Henry Wee Wheels came to visit us. We were delighted to see him! We were gentle with Henry and asked his owner Sharon lots of questions about his life. We were all very happy to be around Henry and he enjoyed exploring. Henry makes us feel good.
Being a Doctor - Medical Cases
As part of our ‘People Who Help Us’ theme we have been learning about doctors and nurses. We talked about what a doctor may carry in their case. We each made our own medical case which included equipment such as, a stethoscope, thermometer, stitches, bandages and plasters.

School closure 1st February
Today is a different type of day as we are learning at home. I hope that we are back at school again very soon.

Mathematics
Yesterday some of us completed work on weight. You have been sorting objects into those which are light and those which are heavy. Try using the language of ‘heavy’ ‘heavier’ ‘heaviest’ and ‘light’ ‘lighter’ ‘lightest’ when you are talking about weight.
