Wednesday 5th February
We have been doing lots of fun activities this week as part of Children's Mental Health Week and we thought you might like to see our works of art!
We followed an art lesson taken by an artist and art teacher called Sinead Mc Dermott.
The art was inspired by the still life paintings of Henri Matisse.
Tuesday 3rd February 2025
This week is Children's Mental Health Week and the theme this year is Know Yourself, Grow Yourself!
We watched Ricky Martin, also known as CBBC's Art Ninja, show us how to create a piece of art.
Then we had a go ourselves.
Friday 17th January
In our Literacy lessons we have moved on to a new genre of writing.
We are now looking at Instructions and how they look a bit different from other types of writing.
Before we write our own instructions we decided that we need to be able to follow them first!
We all love jelly, so we thought we would make some by following the instructions on the back of the packet.
It was fun and the best thing was that we got to eat it too!
Thursday 16th January 2025
Today we had a visit from the Royal Navy STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) team.
We joined our friends in the mainstream to see and experience using some of the technology that sailors and submariners use every day.
We also got to hear about life in a submarine!
It was a fantastic experience and has really inspired some members of our class to think about a STEM career in the future.
Wednesday 15th January 2025
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)
As part of our Topic on Animation we have been looking at how sometimes in movies what looks like magic is actually SCIENCE.
We have been exploring how things are done to make movies and animations look realistic.
As part of this we are investigating whether some of the technology from the movies would be possible in real life.
One device that is used in science fiction films and animations is called a Tractor Beam.
A Tractor Beam can attract one object to another from a distance.
You might have seen them used in Star Trek or Star Wars?
Today we explored how static electricity could be the science behind these beams.
Have a look at how we got on with our experiments using balloons, cans and tissue paper!
Thursday 21st November
We had some very special visitors today from
UTV who have come to film Peanut for another episode of the 'Dogs With Jobs'!
Peanut showed them just how much he helps us to settle in to school each day and how he likes to stay close by when we start our lessons.
Some members of our class also used the cameras to film as well.
This was great because we have been making our own stop motion films as part of our topic on Animation.
Wednesday 16th October
All our children had a chat about what our new topic should be.
We thought about the things that interest us and we came up with some ideas.
Then we had a class vote to choose the best idea and we chose ANIMATION!
We thought this would make a fantastic topic because it covers lots of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects as well as History and Art too.
Today we began to make our own animations using the new school iPads-using an app called iPad Stop Motion.
Have a look at how we got on and when we finish our animations we will put them up here for you to see!
Friday 6th September.

We have also done some art activities to connect our learning.

There were lots more fascinating things to see so we are going to go back again soon!
Friday 26th April
Our seeds have grown!
Now we have Sweet Peas, Marigolds and Spinach growing in our classroom.
Monday 15th April
Today we talked about how important farming was for the Vikings and how every member of a Viking family would have helped to grow food for the whole community.
Then we tried a bit of farming ourselves by planting a vegetable seed, spinach.
This will give us something to eat.
We also planted some flower seeds to add a bit of colour to our classroom.
Hopefully we have green fingers and our seeds will grow, as long as the sun remembers to shine!
Friday 12th April
In our Literacy sessions we have been exploring similes.
A simile is a comparison of two things using the words 'like' and 'as'.
An example is as 'sweet as honey'.
We have learnt that similes exercise that part of the imagination that is able to make connections between two things.
Today we used a writing frame to support us as we came up with our own simile poems.
We had a poetry recital in our class-you can watch us perform below!
Thursday 11th April

The cress seeds in tray 1 have germinated!
Tuesday 9th January
As part of our topic 'Vikings', we have been looking at STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) enquiries from the CCEA 'Ideas for Connected Learning' resource.
Enquiry 1 asks: Why Did the Vikings Leave their Homeland?
We have already learnt that the main reason the Vikings left their homes was to find more and better land for farming.
In our first experiment, we are asking: 'How do different conditions affect the germination or growth of plants?'
We are learning that plants can be influenced by seasonal or environmental change.
We will keep you updated on how our experiments go, so keep checking our class page!

W5 Destination Space!
Destination Space Workshop - Satellites are the unseen heroes of modern life. They can stop you getting lost, and they can stop you getting wet. They track climate change and even look for aliens deep in outer space. Without them, your smartphone wouldn’t be so smart. But how much do we know about this army of orbiting eyes in the sky? In this workshop we will learn more about what satellites are and how they get up there. Then, just like a satellite, we’ll do some coding and get hands on experience in radio communications. One of our friendly Science Communicators will join you for a lesson with your class to explore satellite technologies, the James Webb Space Telescope and local spaceports!

In our Literacy lessons we have been learning about Instructional Writing. We write instructions to explain how to make or do something. We want the reader to be able to follow the instructions and do the task on their own! You need to know how to do something yourself before you can give someone else instructions so we made toast (who doesn't like toast?!) first and then we wrote our own instructions! Have a look at the pictures below to see how we got on.
