It's Monday 1st March and time for some numberwork !

Today we are thinking about the number before and the number after a given number.

So 2 good strategies to use today would be "counting back" and "counting on".

Boys and girls, we know that when we are working out the "number before" it will be less so the best strategy to use would be counting back.

So, to find the number before a given number we count back 1.  It is also the same as taking away 1.

For example "what is the number before 19?"

19 - count back 1 is 18  OR

19 - 1 = 18

Boys and girls, we know that when we are working out the "number after" it will be more so the best strategy to use would be counting on.

So, to find the number after a given number we count on 1.  It is also the same as adding on 1.

For example "what is the number after 23?"

23 - count on 1 is 24  OR

23 + 1 = 24

This is much easier to show you while I am explaining it boys and girls.  So please watch the video below very carefully before you attempt today's task.
