Aladdin, allergies and... a lot of strange looking staff!

Hello again!

April has came and gone ... and now we're into May! With perhaps a little bit more sunshine and heat we hope!

April was all about 'Aladdin Trouble' in school, especially for the cast of 85 pupils in P5, P6 and P7 who triumphed with this year's school production. Congratulations to pupils and staff and especially director, producer, script editor and overall lady-in-charge Mrs Bell on a hugely successful show, performed on 3 nights to sell out crowds. The songs were fantastic, the acting superb and the jokes very well received! Thanks to all those who came along and supported our show and to those who bought ballot tickets with a total of £500 raised to spend on brand new Maths equipment in school for next year!

We've also just completed this year's 'Big Pedal' competition run by Sustrans, which encouraged pupils (and parents too!) to leave the car at the door and cycle or scoot to school instead, over the course of 2 weeks. Mr Massey offered ballot tickets, house points, sweets and all sorts of other incentives/bribes in the playground each morning to those who participated. There were lots of prize winners from P1 to P7 at the end of the fortnight, winning accessories for their bikes and their cycling trips! We rounded off the fortnight with an extended Disco break - we await the final results from the Northern Ireland league table to see where our school finished overall!

Brooklands held its first 'Allergy Awareness' Day for P4 to P7 pupils recently too. Eva Toye from P7M bravely told us about her own allergies as well as delivering a brilliant presentation with her mum Mrs Toye in a special assembly. Let's remember our school is a NUT FREE ZONE - this includes all food brought at break and in a packed lunch - we need to be so careful which foods are sent into school- they may not be appropriate for all pupils in the classroom. We finished that day with a fun fitness workout in the playground led by Grant - bizarrely the teachers and assistants decided to transport themselves back to the 1980s with their outfits... only in Brooklands! We collected £150 for the Pupil Council on this day as well - many thanks for your donations.

Well...there you have it! What a manic few weeks! There's more to come in May and June too as the P1s head to W5, the P2s to Mountstewart, the P3s to the farm and the P4s and P5s behind the scenes at Tesco Knocknagoney! Not forgetting the P7 residential at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum in Cultra of course!
