P6 Literacy 19th January

Reciprocal reading - writing a summary

We are learning how to write a summary using ACHE - About, Characters, Happened, Ending

Phonics

This week's sound is "s" e.g. selfish, sciencecereal

Download this week's PowerPoint to find out more about the "s" sound.  Then download this week's "Words for Sorting" (choose either the higher level or the lower level) and the "Phonics - homework tasks" worksheet.

We are going to follow the same pattern as we would normally do in school so...

Tuesday  Today I have to sort the words on my list to find out which words contain the same spelling of the target sound.

Wednesday  Today I use some of my words to write sentences (at least four sentences).

Thursday  Decide which spellings are hard to remember and find a way to learn them.

On Friday you can ask an adult to test you on this week's spellings.

Main activity

Today we are going to look back at yesterday's comprehension texts and use our reciprocal reading skills to write a summary of what we've read.  Then it's time to think about the vocabulary used in your comprehension text and you are going to complete a crossword puzzle!

Watch today's video to look at an example of a summary which Mr Coetzee wrote about "The Disappearing Days" and then have a go at writing a summary by yourself based on either "The Runt" or "Mrs Goat and her seven little kids".

Remember, you are concentrating on the key moments in the story so please don't write out the full story!  Don't forget to check your spelling and punctuation please.

Once you've finished writing your summary, download the crossword activity for your group.  The answer to each clue is in the comprehension text so make sure that you have a copy of the story in front of you.

Don't forget to log in to BugClub each day please!  Reading on a daily basis is very important so find somewhere quiet and get lost in a book!
