P6 Literacy 3rd March

Book week Day 3 - parts of speech

After reading Chp3 of Mr Skip, we are looking for examples of nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.

This week we are looking at the "u-e" sound (see Tuesday's Literacy page).  For today's activity, choose some of your words and put them into sentences of your own (at least four sentences please).

Don't forget to log in to BugClub to do your daily reading please!  If you can't remember your log-in details, please email your teacher.

Welcome to Book Week - Day 3!

Did you join our Instagram Live on Monday where Mr Henry introduced us to "Code Name Bananas" by David Walliams?  Head back over to Instagram at 10.00am today for more fun!

You've probably watched "The Masked Singer" but today, ladies and gentlemen, it's time to welcome

"The Masked Reader!"

Head to our Brooklands Book Week webpage from 11.00am to listen to some short stories read by our Brooklands staff!  Can you work out who is hiding behind each mask?!

Also today, you could

  • think about your entry for our "Extreme Expression" competition.  Choose an interesting passage from a book and practise reading it aloud in your most interesting voice.  Once you've perfected it, ask an adult to video your performance and send it to the school WhatsApp number.  All the details are on the Brooklands Book Week page.
  • email your teacher to sign up for your class Zoom meeting which is tomorrow afternoon.

Main activity

This week's P6 Literacy tasks are based around "Mister Skip" by Michael Morpurgo.  Each day, Mrs Bell will read one chapter of the book with you.  You can read along with her because all of the words are also on the screen.  Then we will complete our written activities based on an excerpt from that chapter.  Today we are reading Chapter 3 and then thinking about parts of speech such as nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.

Extension Activity - Predicting

Chapter 3 ends with Jackie's mum saying that they need a miracle. Does this miracle happen, is there a twist or are they disappointed? Using the reciprocal reading skills that you have developed over the last while, write a paragraph and email it to your teacher predicting what you think happens next to Jackie. Does Mr. Skip save the day and prevent Jackie from being humiliated in front of the Crazy Cossacks?  Then you can listen to Mrs. Bell reading Chapter 4 tomorrow to see if you are correct.

Play Live Words!

Oh my goodness, it is tight at the top of this week's leaderboard!  Will Abby finish the week as our champion?  Head to Education City and let battle commence!  Good luck!
