Homophones revision

Mrs Bell explains today's Literacy tasks as we revise homophones

Homophones revision

For today's Literacy lesson, we are going to revise homophones.

Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings. They also have different spellings

e.g. heel, heal and he'll are homophones because they sound the same but have different meanings and spellings

heel = the back part of your foot

heal = to get better after an illness or injury

he'll = a contraction meaning he will

Watch today's video and then work your way through our activities.

Begin by visiting BBC Bitesize https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zqhpk2p/articles/zc84cwx where you can watch their short videos and take a quiz!

Then log-in to Education City https://go.educationcity.com  In this week's Homework City, use the "A-Boat Time 1" Learn Screen and Activity to test your knowledge of homophones.  If you'd like to do a written activity, download the worksheet below.

Finally, download the "50 more homophones puzzles" PowerPoint.  Challenge someone else in your house to see who can identify the pairs of homophones first!  To use the PowerPoint, don't forget to click on "Slide Show" and then "From beginning".

It's so important to do some reading each day!  Don't forget to login to BugClub www.activelearnprimary.co.uk where you can read this week's book plus revisit some of the books you've already read.

If you can't remember your username, please email your teacher.  Your password is Brooklands (with a capital B) and the school code is hwpa.

iPad users - if you are having difficulty logging in to BugClub on an iPad, please try the following:

  • Make sure that you are using the most up-to-date software version - it must be iOS 12.4 or later
  • If you are using Safari as your browser, on your home screen go to Settings - Safari and make sure that "Block All Cookies" and "Prevent Cross Site Tracking" are both turned off.
  • If you still can't log in, try downloading Google Chrome as a browser.
