It also tells you how the War affected so many people's lives, not just those who were fighting on both sides, but ordinary men, women and children of all ages as well.
It mentions rationing. This was the way the Government made sure there was enough food for everyone.
It also explains why so many children were sent away from their homes in the cities to live safely in the countryside. This was known as evacuation. Many children from Belfast found themselves living in very different homes with adults who were kind enough to take them in and look after them.
