It's the Brooklands Primary & Nursery Virtual Open Day 2020!

Do you have a child ready for school next September 2021? Well, look no further than the warmest, friendliest place in the local area - Brooklands!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Please see the attached letter below, which outlines our move from Online Homework to Written Homework, from next week.

The routine will be the same throughout school, as we want to make this as easy for our families as possible.

We felt it vitally important to take a slow and steady reintroduction to homework this year, given all that our children have experienced since March. Our first priority was to help our children to settle back into school life, growing confidence in themselves and their learning after a long period at home.

We are so proud of how well the children have settled back into school and their energy, smiles and enthusiasm are incredible! That is thanks to the immense support and reassurance they feel from home, as well as from the whole staff within school, where their well-being comes first in every decision we make.

As such, we feel the time is now right to reintroduce short written tasks each week, along with word spellings, mental maths and reading.

The attached letter explains this in more detail for you, but please know that we are here to support you and your child throughout, so please get in touch with any queries as the term goes on.

We have attached a few ideas for helping your child learn word spellings from home too, which we hope you find helpful. More homework support will come throughout the year, as we strive to support all of our families in all aspects of school life.

Many Thanks Indeed,

Mr Armstrong and Mrs Smart

     *Mellow Yellow Day*

Thursday 24th September 2020

On Thursday we will be taking part in our second 'Mellow Yellow Day' in school.

This is a day where we focus upon positive mental health, as we celebrate all that we can do and all that we are thankful for, as well as practicing relaxation techniques, mindfulness, art and activities surrounding well-being.

This month has been a gentle return back into school, where our children's well-being has been central to everything we do. We felt that this would be a lovely way to celebrate our return to school, from within our own classes, before we finish for a long weekend, with an Exceptional Closure on Friday 25th September.

There is no cost for this day, and unfortunately due to restrictions, we cannot ask the children to dress-up this year, however, if your child would like to wear a yellow accessory on Thursday, such as sunglasses, a hairband or yellow socks, they'd be so welcome to!!

We want to take this opportunity to thank you so much for helping your child settle back into school so well, and for all of the support you have shown us too. Your support means everything, as we work together for the best of every child in Brooklands.

This 'Mellow Yellow Day' we want to say thank you to you, and to all of our children for the most wonderful, positive return back to school.

We are so thankful for each and very one of you!

Julia Donaldson and Axel Sheffler's Story Adaptations to help Children Understand Corona Virus

Children's Author Julia Donaldson and Illustrator Axel Sheffler are adapting their famous stories to help children make sense of the Corona Virus and the Stay at Home guidance that we are all following.

Julia Donaldson is posting updates and videos of her reading from her books on her Face Book Page each week too. Here is a link to articles and examples of their adapted texts, which are really reassuring for the children to read, as the message is coming from the characters they are already so familiar with...
