  • NSPCC's "Speak Out, Stay Safe" programme comes to Brooklands

    Fri 28 Sep 2018

This week we have been delighted to welcome our visitors from the NSPCC to Brooklands as part of their "Speak Out, Stay Safe" programme for primary pupils.  It aims to equip a generation of children with the knowledge and understanding they need to stay safe from abuse and neglect.

We had two fantastic assemblies where the children learned to speak out if they are worried, either to a trusted adult or to Childline.  Our P6 and P7 classes also enjoyed workshops with volunteers Matthew and Dee.

  • Fab Phonics Workshop draws a big crowd!

    Thu 20 Sep 2018

Our whole school Linguistic Phonics teaching programme is well underway in every classroom in Brooklands. Pupils are being taught to focus on sounds each week with the aim of improving reading and spelling across the school. We were delighted to welcome Paula Quinn, a former Literacy Officer at the EA (formerly SEELB), to facilitate an interactive workshop for parents on Phonics. It was wonderful to see so many parents come along to listen and learn about this new initiative - we look forward to seeing the success of this new way of teaching spelling and reading in our pupils' work over the coming months and years.
