Cash for Kids fundraising continues!
Sun 17 Oct 2021Well done to all our boys and girls who completed the fundraising Sponsored Walks around our school grounds and at Dundonald High last week! The weather stayed dry for all and allowed everyone to escape the classroom and explore the great outdoors. HUGE thanks to our families for yet MORE donations for this latest event in our Cash for Kids fundraising campaign.
If you'd like to donate, click the link below BEFORE 3pm on Friday 22nd October - if we have the highest total out of the 20 participating schools, we'll secure a grant of £5000 ON TOP OF our own fundraising total! Wow!

BROOKIES WELCOMES JOE WICKS!

Brooklands was buzzing yesterday as we welcomed the Body Coach, and the nation's lockdown PE teacher, Mr Joe Wicks!!! It was the grand finale of Joe's UK schools tour to promote his first children's book "The Burpee Bears" - on sale now!
Joe arrived at Brooklands to a mid-morning fanfare of every pupil and member of staff who created a carnival atmosphere at our front steps! He led 2 separate sessions with our P3s and P4s where he led a workout and read his brand new book. We were delighted to be joined by Belfast-based illustrator Paul Howard too, who drew a Burpee Bear for the children.
After lots of photos, some book signing and cupcake eating, Joe visited the Learning Support classes for a quick hello then headed to the dining hall where the delighted dinner ladies got to meet him at long last!
Huge thanks to Joe for his energy, care & enthusiasm for our pupils, to Louisa from Harper Collins for coordinating the visit, to illustrator Paul for joining in the madness and to Mrs Henry for her delicious Joe Wicks cupcakes!!!
Another amazing day at Brooklands - thanks Joe!

More memories made on Mellow Yellow Day!
Wed 06 Oct 2021Our 3rd annual Mellow Yellow Day today helped pupils and staff press the 'pause' button on everyday school life & give time to express our thoughts and feelings through art, drama, music, yoga and meditation!
Thanks to everyone who added to the sea of mamy different shades of yellow around the school building today! Can you find your picture or maybe one of your class below?

Right Start - a free course for parents of primary-aged pupils
Sun 03 Oct 2021Family Connections (part of Barnardos Northern Ireland) are now running a free "Right Start" course for parents of primary-aged pupils in East Belfast.
This course is held by Zoom on Thursday mornings for four weeks from 10am to 11am. Each week, the team will look at themes such as Emotions, Friendships, Making Changes & Routines and Behaviour Management.
The first session by Zoom will take place on Thursday 7th October (postponed from Thursday 30th September).

A breath of fresh 'hair'!
Sat 02 Oct 2021Our Cash for Kids NI fundraising challenge has kicked off with a crazy and colourful start yesterday (1st Oct) when we held our very own WACKY HAIR DAY!
Huge thanks to all our pupils for taking part and donating to our #SchoolChallengeNI campaign - and special mention to our creative parents and carers who helped to prepare the wonderful array of styles & colours on display in both the primary & nursery school!
We'll add our total to our fundraising page when it's counted... 😀
