  • Mellow Yellow Day - Thursday 24th September

    Mon 21 Sep 2020

    Mellow Yellow Day

    Thursday 24th September 2020

On Thursday we will be taking part in our second 'Mellow Yellow Day' within school.

This is a day where we focus upon positive mental health, as we celebrate all that we can do and all that we are thankful for, as well as practicing relaxation techniques, mindfulness, art and activities surrounding well-being.

This month has been a gentle return back into school, where our children's well-being has been central to everything we do. We felt that this would be a lovely way to celebrate our return to school, from within our own classes, before we finish for a long weekend, with an Exceptional Closure on Friday 25th September.

There is no cost for this day, and unfortunately due to restrictions, we cannot ask the children to dress-up this year, however, if your child would like to wear a yellow accessory on Thursday, such as sunglasses, a hairband or yellow socks, they'd be so welcome to!!

We want to take this opportunity to thank you so much for helping your child settle back into school so well, and for all of the support you have shown us too. Your support means everything, as we work together for the best of every child in Brooklands.

This 'Mellow Yellow Day' we want to say thank you to you, and to all of our children for the most wonderful, positive return back to school.

We are so thankful for each and every one of you!

  • Education Restart - updates from Department of Education and the Chief Medical Officer

    Thu 10 Sep 2020
Please click here to download a leaflet from the Department of Education with further information about COVID-19 and attendance at school.  A letter from the Chief Medical Officer can also be downloaded which contains additional information.  Many thanks.
  • School Attendance

    Mon 07 Sep 2020

As children return to class many schools, including Brooklands, are experiencing higher than usual numbers of pupils with colds and sore throats. In the absence of definitive advice from the Department of Education we recommend that if your child has a heavy cold they should be kept at home until they are well enough to return to school.

If your child is displaying Covid-19 symptoms they should not attend school. The decision on whether a child requires a Covid-19 test rests with parents who should seek advice from their family doctor or the Public Health Agency.

In the event of your child being absent from school there is work relevant to their class topic on Education City and reading resources are available on your child’s Bug Club account.

  • Brookies hits the news!

    Sun 06 Sep 2020

The first full week back for pupils at Brooklands Primary and Nursery School certainly was a special one for so many reasons - including being on the news!

BBC Newsline's Robbie Meredith interviewed Mr Armstrong and Mrs Smart about the return to school and then visited P7H in their classroom to film the pupils at work and chat to Cameron and Anita from Mr Henry's class. We led the way as top story on the 1.30, 6.30 and 10.30 BBCNI news bulletins on Tuesday 1st September.

Social media and local newspapers also featured us as the week continued. How wonderful for our school to feature as a very positive and upbeat news story in these very different times we are living in - well done to all involved!
