  • Letter for parents

    Tue 03 Oct 2023

    3rd October 2023

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we enter into the second full month of our new academic year and Autumn term, I wanted to write to give you a few important dates for the diary, as well as an update on Mr Armstrong’s return to school.

Mr Armstrong intends to return to school tomorrow, Wednesday 4th October, and really looks forward to being back in school with the pupils and staff from then.

We have had a busy and successful first month back in school and nursery, with a love of learning being fostered across each year group, as well as the commencement of year group visits and trips, visitors into classrooms and assemblies, RISE Team and Aware NI workshops, swimming lessons and sports’ coaches coming in, all of which compliments the incredible work ongoing by staff throughout school and adds to the variety and interest of pupil’s activities and learning experiences in school.

Looking ahead this month, here are a few important dates for the diary:

Thursday 12th October: Our Annual ‘Mellow Yellow Day’, which is a day spent focussing on our positive mental health and well-being. This is such an important and much-loved day in our school calendar. This will be a non-uniform day where children may come to school wearing something yellow – this could be as simple as a yellow hair band or yellow socks, or a full head-to-toe ensemble - the choice is yours and your child’s, we just encourage children to wear items they already have, or can borrow, for these special events 😊 Any donations kindly received that day will go towards McMillan Cancer Care, with staff contributing to this charity also. Thank you.

Thursday 19th and Friday 20th October: Our Harvest Assemblies where we will be joined by Rev. Maxwell this year. During Harvest we kindly request any possible donations of dried goods for our local Dundonald Food Bank. Thank you.

Week Commencing 23rd October: Our Parent – Teacher Consultation Week. Children finish school at 1pm Monday – Thursday and 1200 on Friday for the beginning of the half-term break.

Thursday 26th October: Our ‘Autumnal Sponsored Walk n’ Roll Event’ – Our children can come into school on this day wearing their brightest and warmest clothing, as we set off around the grounds for our younger pupils, and The Hub and surrounding area for our older pupils, before returning to school for cookies and a disco! All monies raised will be put straight back into the purchase of vital resources for your children, such as the ongoing upgrade of Interactive Whiteboards in our classrooms. Thank you from us all for your incredible support in these vital, fundraising events.

Half Term Break: Children finish at 1200 on Friday 27th October returning on Monday 6th November.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank you all for your support during these last few weeks, and for your communications that came to me during Mr Armstrong’s absence.

    Many thanks,

    Fiona Smart
